About Marie Hughes

Nestled in Albuquerque's West Side near the Petroglyph National Monument, Marie M Hughes Elementary School opened its original doors in 1981 and was dedicated on Sunday, October 18, 1981. In January 2018 our school officially opened its brand new doors in our new, rebuilt campus.

Marie Hughes Elementary staff is dedicated to provide rigorous and authentic learning experiences to each and every one of our students meeting the needs and serving the community of Taylor Ranch and our district special education programs housed out of our campus. MHES is home of the Husky Howl and each and every day our "Huskies Got That Swag"!

In addition to our #HuskySWAG, during the 2019-2020 school year, MHES became the home of our four "Husky Houses". Each staff member and student belongs to a House and finds a sense of identity, builds culture within our school and creates camaraderie within our school. Our four houses are:

  1. Arete: House of Excellence
    • House Color: Yellow
    • House Symbol: Star of Excellence
  2. Intrepidus: House of Love of Learning
    • House Color: Royal Purple
    • House Symbol: Book
  3. Olea: House of Peace and Friendship
    • House Color: Olive Green
    • House Symbol: Tree
  4. Viribus: House of Strength and Determination
    • House Color: Crimson
    • House Symbol: Bear

We may be four families but we are One Husky Pack!
