About Marie Hughes
Nestled in Albuquerque's West Side near the Petroglyph National Monument in the Taylor Ranch community, Marie M. Hughes Elementary School has been a cornerstone of learning and connection for generations of students and families. Originally opened in 1981 and dedicated on October 18, 1981, the school has a rich history of serving its community. In January 2018, Marie M. Hughes officially opened the doors to its newly rebuilt campus, providing a modern learning environment designed to support student success and community engagement.

As a Community School, Marie M. Hughes Elementary is a transformational hub deeply rooted in student success, cultivating a collaborative culture of care, learning, and support to shape resilient individuals prepared for a dynamic future. Through the Community School Strategy, we bring together students, families, educators, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for learning, connection, and growth. Guided by the key practices of collaborative leadership and shared decision-making, active family and community engagement, expanded and enriched learning opportunities, integrated systems of support, rigorous community-connected teaching and learning, and a culture of belonging, we work collectively to ensure every student is supported, empowered, and equipped to thrive both in school and beyond.
